Desenvolvimento pós-embrionário do intestino anterior de Dermatobia hominis (Linnaeus Jr.) (Diptera, Cuterebridae) Zoologia
Vieira,Ana Maria; Lello,Edy de.
Foregut in D. hominis (Linnaeus Jr., 1781) as the majority of the larval Diptera somatic tissue, is made up of polytenic cells, and grows at the expenses of the polytenization of its nuclei followed by the increase in size of each cell. The oesophagus, of ectodermic origem, is interiorly covered by a chitinous squamous epithelium that rests upon a very thin basal lamina. This sheet is surrounded by thick muscle bundles. The oesophagus intussuscepts the midgut forming the cardia. The cardia, with three epithelial layers: two internal ones, of ectodermal origin and one external of endodermic origin. At the anterior portion of the cardia, between these two types of epithelium, there is a cluster of small, non polytenic cells, forming the imaginal disk of the...

Desenvolvimento pós-embrionário do intestino médio de Dermatobia hominis (Linnaeus Jr.) (Diptera, Cuterebridae) Zoologia
Lello,Edy de; Vieira,Ana Maria.
Dermatobia hominis (Linnaeus, 1781) midgut is internally lined by an epithelium of polytenic cells, some low others prismatic with well developed brush border. Their apical portion are enlarged by secretory vesicles, forming button-like structures that are pinched off to the lumen, some accompained by the nucleus characterizing apocrine and holocrine secretions. This epithelium is gradually renewed by small, non polytenic regenerative cells, found scattered at its basal portion. At the end of the third instar the metamorphosis begins. The epithelial cells present signs of degeneration and at the first day of pupation the regenerative cells increase in number. By the 5th day of pupation these regenerative cells, besides being increased in number,...

Electrophoretic protein pattern and acid phosphatase activity in the midgut extracts of Apis mellifera L. (Hymenoptera: Apidae) during metamorphosis Neotropical Entomology
Cavalcante,Vagner M.; Cruz-Landim,Carminda da.
The electrophoretic pattern of proteins and the activity of acid phosphatase were described in the midgut extracts during the post-embryonic stages of Apis mellifera L. in order to stablish a correlation with the metamorphosis events. The results show the greatest variation in proteic electrophoretical bands during prepupal stage and the smallest variation during the brown eyed pupae stage. The acid phosphatase activity was higher during the larval last instar and lower in white eyed pupae. The greatest variety of bands during the prepupal stage coincides with the histolysis of the larval midgut epithelium and the lowest variability in the brown eyed pupa coincides with the end of the midgut differentiation. In another hand, the greatest phosphatase...

Growth and developmental time in the parthenogenetic scorpion Tityus stigmurus (Thorell, 1876) (Scorpiones: Buthidae) Biological Sciences
Souza, Adriano Medeiros de; Santana Neto, Pedro de Lima; Lira, André Felipe de Araujo; Albuquerque, Cleide Maria Ribeiro de.
This study describes variation in ontogenetic development of the parthenogenetic scorpion Tityus stigmurus based on variations in size, intermolt period, and number of instars. Individuals were created under laboratory conditions (28 ± 3ºC) and subjected to similar diet regime. Comparative measurements of carapace, segment V of the metasoma, and the movable finger are used to estimate variations in size among instars. The application of Dyar rule shows a growth factor from 1.14 to 1.38 depending on the parameter analysed with intense variations in size between and within the different instars. The duration of the period from birth to adulthood was 871 days, after six moults. These data suggest that T. stigmurus has the longest post-embryonic development of...
